Collections
At So Watt, our furniture collections are more than just pieces to fill a space—they're a statement of craftsmanship, sustainability, and modern design. Each collection is thoughtfully developed around a specific construction method or joinery technique, resulting in distinct aesthetics that serve a variety of functions and styles. Whether you're designing a home office, outfitting a retail space, or adding comfort and character to a creative studio, our premium, made-to-order collections are designed to boost productivity, enrich comfort, and elevate the look and feel of any environment.
Built in our Marrickville workshop, So Watt furniture is defined by a unique blend of material honesty, architectural detail, and made-to-last quality. With a strong focus on plywood—sourced for its strength, sustainability, and natural beauty—we offer a collection of high-quality products that seamlessly combine form and function.
Each of our collections carries its own identity, defined by materials, details, and functionality:
Plonk Collection
Light, playful, and minimalist in form, Plonk is our take on airy, sculptural furniture. Featuring signature round dowel legs paired with thin plywood tops, this collection is ideal for side tables, stools, or statement dining pieces. Its floating, delicate aesthetic hides a surprising strength, making it a perfect fit for open, light-filled interiors. While not suited for large cabinetry, Plonk excels at creating moments of charm and simplicity in any space.
Loft Collection
For those in need of smart storage or clean-lined cabinetry, Loft offers architectural clarity with a contemporary twist. Built using our precise mitre sharknose joinery technique, this collection is sleek and satisfying to the touch. It’s a go-to for residential and commercial settings alike—ideal for built-in nooks, office fit-outs, and anywhere refined functionality is needed.
IKEA Hacks
Our IKEA Hack range delivers designer upgrades for off-the-shelf furniture. We create custom plywood doors, panels, and tops to transform standard IKEA pieces into something uniquely yours—without compromising on affordability or durability.
Pegboards, Shelving & Seating
We also offer a modular range of pegboards, wall-mounted shelving systems, and seating solutions tailored to small and large spaces alike. Each item is available in a variety of finishes and configurations, and can be customised to your specs. Whether you're organising a workspace or making room for more, these pieces are crafted to work hard and look good doing it.
Every piece is made to order, which means we can tweak sizes, finishes, and configurations to perfectly suit your layout and lifestyle.
Choosing a So Watt collection means choosing quality, integrity, and intentional design. Here's what sets us apart:
Customisation at Every Level
All our pieces are made to order, giving you the freedom to choose sizes, materials, and configurations that work specifically for your space. From wall-to-wall shelving to custom bench seating, we make it easy to create a perfect fit.
Durable, Sustainable Materials
We work almost exclusively with birch and hoop pine plywood, selected for their strength, sustainable sourcing, and visual warmth. Our finishes are low-VOC and environmentally conscious, adding long-lasting protection without sacrificing style.
Design That Works Hard
Whether you’re furnishing a co-working space or building out a boutique Airbnb, our furniture is built for performance. Thoughtful construction ensures every piece can withstand daily use while still offering a sense of style and personality.
Support for Professionals
We offer trade pricing and tailored project support for designers, architects, and business owners. Our team is here to help with material selection, finish samples, lead times, and logistics—whether it’s a single fit-out or a multi-site project.

How can I choose the right collection for my space?
We design our furniture and homewares collections around specific construction methods, with each range highlighting a unique joinery detail or assembly technique that defines its look and feel. This focus on craftsmanship is what gives each collection its distinct character, making it easier for you to find pieces that not only fit your space but also align with your aesthetic and practical needs.
For example, our Plonk collection is a fan favourite thanks to its minimalist yet playful design language. This range is defined by its signature round dowel legs, which contrast beautifully with a thin plywood seat pan or tabletop. The result is a lightweight, floating appearance that feels delicate but is surprisingly robust. The Plonk pieces make perfect stools, side tables or statement dining furniture, and are ideal for open, airy interiors where lightness and form are celebrated. However, due to the nature of its design, Plonk is not suited to larger furniture formats like cabinets or storage pieces—it’s all about creating moments of charm and simplicity.
If you’re after functional storage or more architectural furniture, we recommend looking at our Loft collection. Loft was designed with storage and cabinetry in mind, featuring clean lines and precise joinery. This collection uses a mitre sharknose technique, where the external panels of a cabinet come together in a seamless mitre joint. The front edge is then angled back to create what we call a “sharknose” edge; sleek, modern and satisfying to touch. The result is a refined cabinet system that looks just as good in a living room or studio as it does in a commercial setting. Loft is a favourite for both residential and professional projects because of its versatility and polish.
When choosing a collection for your space, consider the function of the piece as much as the style. Do you need flexible seating? Go for Plonk. Are you kitting out a home office or creating a built-in storage nook? Loft has you covered. And if you’re still unsure, our team is always available to guide you through our collections and help you decide which is the best fit for your layout, lifestyle and preferences.

What materials are used in your collections?
As plywood specialists, we work almost exclusively with birch and hoop pine plywood, both selected for their strength, sustainability, and aesthetic appeal. You’ll see this material across all our collections—sometimes as the sole material, and sometimes paired with other sustainable options.
We occasionally incorporate materials like OSB (oriented strand board) or recycled plastics to highlight certain design features or add texture and colour contrast. These additional materials are chosen carefully and are often used in moderation to keep the natural beauty of the plywood front and centre.
Our finishes are low-VOC and environmentally conscious, helping us align with our values of sustainability and ethical production. We work with clear and coloured coatings that highlight the wood grain while providing long-term durability for everyday use.
Are the products in your collections made to order or in stock?
All of our furniture is made to order in our Marrickville workshop. This allows us to offer a high level of customisation in terms of size, finish, and configuration. It also means we’re not contributing to wasteful mass production practices—instead, we craft each piece with care, exactly as it's needed.
Lead times will vary depending on the product and the specific materials chosen. We provide estimated timeframes on each product page to help you plan your project. Please note that these lead times refer only to the production time and do not include shipping, so make sure to account for freight if you’re located outside the Sydney area.
Made-to-order also means you can tweak a design to better suit your space—whether it’s a smaller seat height, an extended shelf, or a new finish to match existing décor.
Can I order custom-sized shelves or seating from your collections?
Absoulutely. We love working on custom-sized projects, it’s one of the best parts of what we do! Whether you're looking for a perfectly proportioned bench seat, a wall-to-wall shelf system, or a custom storage solution, we’re happy to explore options with you.
There are some practical constraints we work within, such as the standard sheet size of plywood (typically 1200mm x 2400mm). For pieces that exceed those dimensions, we may need to incorporate joins or modify the design. But our team is well-versed in making clever design adjustments that maintain structural integrity and visual appeal.
Custom chairs are a little trickier, as they require prototyping and rigorous testing for ergonomics and strength. As such, they involve a higher design fee. For more straightforward items like shelves, cabinets and bench seats, the design fees are more modest and we’re usually able to offer a fast turnaround.
If you’ve got a custom request in mind, email us with a sketch or dimensions and we’ll let you know what's possible.
