1. What makes the Archibald Writing Bureau unique?
The Archibald is a modern version of an old style writing desk, commonly known as a writing bureau. The inspiration for this design came from our co-owner Sophie’s Grandfather, who had his own writing bureau with a roll up front and lots of organising compartments. It was such an exciting piece of furniture that made you look forward to using it, and it felt right to give the concept an update with modern touches.
The main thing that makes this a unique desk for home is the ability to close the lid and walk away from all your mess when the working day is finished. Not only does this give you an instantly tidy room, but it shrinks the overall space that is taken up by the writing surface, making it the ideal desk for small spaces while not compromising on function and storage.
To make this a truly modern desk, the design considers the tidy management of cables for all the devices we use to do our work. Every compartment has cable routing to get the cords out the back of the unit to your wall socket. The shelves have corner cutouts so you can run your printer cable up from the shelves below the desk and the work area has cutouts in each corner for your desk lamp and phone charger to run straight down.
2. Is the Archibald Writing Bureau difficult to assemble?
The Archibald Writing Bureau comes fully assembled! The only thing left for you to do is arrange the adjustable shelves at the right height to store your belongings, and run your cables through all the cutouts to power up your work area.
Because the Archibald is a fold down desk, we do recommend fixing it back to your wall so that there are no accidents with young children hanging or climbing on the fold out desk area.
3. What Product Can I Pair With The Archibald Writing Bureau?
Our buddy box timber storage crates work really well in the shelving area below the fold out desk and help you to maximise your desk storage. Try our Plonk dining chair as your work chair or our billi stool if you prefer to use it as a make-up hutch.
The Archibald Writing Bureau is part of the Loft collection by So Watt. This collection features mitred joins, sharknose edges and OSB back panels across the range, and fun pops of colour in the handles. Any piece from the Loft collection will look great alongside the Archibald fold out desk cabinet and you can use our range of finishes to create a complimentary colour palette to suit your space.
4. What can l use the Archibald Writing Bureau for?
While the primary function is a fold out desk, the Archibald is basically a fold away storage cabinet. So that means it works really well as a home bar, allowing you to store bottles inside the closed top section and glassware below with a mixing or serving station when you fold down the door! This great little piece of Australian Made design is also perfect for a make-up hutch. Store all your cosmetics in our buddy box all-rounder in the shelves below the desk, and plug a light-up mirror in to the desk area!
